Lecture Series: Family and Career
Currently, family friendliness is highly popular at German universities. But how much of it actually affects families? How, especially, do we satisfy the needs of up-and-coming junior researchers and scientists? In order to find answers to these questions and inspiration for new ways of family friendliness, the Giessen graduate centres, the Career Centre, the Research Campus of Central Hessen and the International Office with the support of the Women’s Representative host a number of events (e.g. a series of lectures or information events with panel discussions).
Events Winter Semester 2024/2025
Keynote: 03 December 2024, 12.00-13.30 Coachings : We offer 15 individual coaching sessions of 60 minutes each. They take place at different times between 3 and 13 December . Your preferred time slots can be indicated on the registration form. [Online] via Zoom Speaker: Prof Dr Daniela Elsner (Business-Life Coaching, Executive Coaching, Solution-Focused Brief Therapy, Career & Leadership Trainings) What is the secret of people who successfully manage different tasks and roles in their lives without constantly feeling like they are stuck in a hamster wheel? What is their key to resilience in challenging situations? How do they juggle it all without burning out? In this interactive talk, Daniela Elsner, business-life coach, psychotherapist (HPr.G), professor of learning and teaching, mother of three and author of the book “Ausgebalanced” (Gabal Verlag) shares her personal and scientific knowledge on how successful people juggle “it all”. Her first recommendation: “Forget the work-life balance, tailor your life!” This talk is aimed at all those who want to acquire new patterns of action and strengthen their resilience to successfully deal with their different professional and private challenges. Participants will critically examine the current model of work-life-balance and understand that a balanced life is a very individual perception, which starts with self-responsibility and the right attitude towards individual life goals. Participants will learn about an alternative model for work-life design and its underlying principles to achieve more satisfaction with one’s (working) life by explicitly applying certain resilience strategies. In addition to the talk, we are happy to offer 15 slots for individual coaching sessions with Prof Dr Elsner, where insights from the talk can be consolidated and you can discuss your individual situation in a safe space to identify potential solutions and strategies. The talk will be held in English. The coaching sessions can be in either English or German.
