Short presentation of the GGN and our goals
The Giessen Graduate Center for Natural Sciences and Psychology (GGN) is a central, interdisciplinary institution at Justus Liebig University Giessen. The GGN was founded in 2022 to provide researchers at early career stages in the natural sciences and psychology with the best possible support through accompanying qualification programs and to support them in their further career planning. We form an interdisciplinary network for exchange and cooperation between the sciences.
As the GGN in cooperation with the Center for Materials Research (ZfM), we are also striving for better networking with business and industry at the training and project level. Together with you as an industrial partner, we want to create the necessary structured interfaces for networking, e.g. as part of a digital platform "Marketplace" or at "Industry Days". The goals are
- To inform students about internships and final theses in industry and thus provide industry experience and insight into career opportunities,
- to initiate projects between experts from industry and the natural sciences and psychology at the university with the involvement of doctoral students,
- to facilitate access for industry partners to existing research infrastructure within the framework of joint projects.

Highlights of our first "GGN meets industry" event
We are excited to share some highlights of our first "GGN meets industry" event in the Hotel and Restaurant heyligenstaedt in Giessen. Our event successfully brought together university leaders in natural sciences and psychology and more than 20 partners from business and industry. The objective was clear: to strengthen connections and open doors for collaborations.
Dr. Marie Bischoff opened the event and guided through the program. The program featured a comprehensive introduction to the Giessen Graduate Center for Natural Sciences and Psychology (GNN) by Prof. Dr. Peter Klar, outlining our vision to foster collaboration and bridge the gap between academia and industry. Prof. Dr. Sangam Chatterjee, who was awarded a transfer professorship in 2024, pointed at the excellent research infrastructure at the Justus Liebig University Giessen (JLU) and gave examples of ongoing research projects. In addition, various collaborative projects with industry partners were presented. Dipl. Ing. Christian Altmann (Ariane Group) introduced an existing collaboration (since 2017) in the frame of a Graduate School agreement between ArianeGroup and JLU to the audience in which several PhD projects were already completed or are ongoing. Two Alumni from JLU, Dr. Nina Hoinkis (Schott) and Dr. Harun Karimpur (Accenture) shared their practical experience on collaborations between university and industry in doctoral studies and projects.
During the event, we facilitated engaging discussions around collaboration that can create opportunities for students and professionals alike.
It was inspiring to witness the enthusiasm from both our university representatives and industry leaders looking to work together.

"Online Marketplace"
Following our successful "GGN meets industry" kick-off event, we would like to set up an "online marketplace" on our homepage to communicate offers for student trainees, student projects, internships, theses and other collaboration activities between your company and the university.
We would like to invite you to present your company's work in a short description or video on this platform. We will then publish your offers for working students, student projects, internships, theses and other activities of your company free of charge for you and maintain the offer in coordination with you.
The platform is intended to contribute to better networking between industry and university. The marketplace is intended to be a contact point for researchers at early career stages to find out about offers and prospects in industry. It is also designed to give your company visibility and facilitate collaboration with partners at the university.
You can submit or update your content for publication via mail. We are also always available at this address for inquiries and further ideas.
