GGN Summer Event 2026

On 9 July 2026, the Giessen Graduate Center for Natural Sciences and Psychology (GGN) of Justus Liebig University Giessen (JLU) invited researchers, JLU members, and guests from industry to its annual summer event. The program was marked by scientific exchange, outstanding research, and interdisciplinary encounters.

The opening ceremony was delivered by Prof. Dr. Wencke Gwozdz, Vice‑President for Research and Graduate Studies at the JLU. Afterwards, Prof. Dr. Peter Klar, Managing Director, and Prof. Dr. Katja Fiehler, Deputy Managing Director, provided an overview of the Graduate Center’s current work and presented GGN’s annual report.

A highlight was the presentation of the Dr.HerbertStolzenberg Award, which recognizes exceptional achievements in the early career phase of researchers. On behalf of the GGN and the Dr.HerbertStolzenberg Foundation, Prof. Dr. Herman Wegner announced the recipients. The award went to DianaKollenda and Dr. MaximilianKissel, who then offered the audience insight into their excellent research projects.

With his keynote talk on “Resources, Energy, and Technology as Conditions of Europe’s Capacity to Act,” Prof. Dr. FredericHanusch encouraged the audience to examine current global challenges. The subsequent panel discussion with Prof. Dr. SangamChatterjee and Prof. Dr. StefanHennemann invited participants to further deepen and debate the complex topic.

 


 

The summer event provided ample opportunity for networking and interdisciplinary exchange during the cake buffet and the finger‑food reception. Inviting local companies from Central Hesse further promoted targeted networking among researchers and with industry.

The event concluded with a Science Slam moderated by AnnaLeahScholl. DianaKollenda, LauraFaßbender, and Prof. Dr. SigfriedSchindler presented their research in an entertaining and engaging way.
