About the CLAS

Header College of Liberal Arts and Sciences

The College of Liberal Arts & Sciences (CLAS), newly established at JLU Giessen in the winter semester 2023/24, designs and organises the Liberal Arts and Sciences degree programme across all departments and together with the participating JLU departments.

Alongside the College staff, the College also includes the professors and module coordinators in the orientation year as well as the subject tracks from the individual departments.

With its specific and interdisciplinary form of an undergraduate and broad Bachelor's programme oriented towards individual interests, the College represents an alternative to disciplinary studies.

The course of studies combines the central foundations for academic work with interdisciplinary focal points on current challenges facing human societies and future topics such as sustainability, digitalisation and social change.

Following a joint orientation phase in the first year of study and a subsequent two-year study programme in one of the humanities or science-oriented subject tracks, students can then obtain the academic degree Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) or Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.).

Overview of the degree programme:

Final degree: Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Sciences (depending on the chosen subject track after the first year of study)

Duration: 3 years, 180 CP

Language of instruction: German

Application & admission: The programme can only be started in the winter semester.

Current information on application and admission can be found here.
