History and Objective
Since 2018, JLU Giessen has been offering a medical didactics continuing education program specifically tailored to the needs of medicine and dentistry. The goal is to support educators in these fields in professionalizing their teaching skills and to familiarize them with scientifically grounded insights into effective teaching in medicine.
This program particularly includes:
- Professionalization of one's own courses in terms of a didactically well-structured, learning-friendly teaching approach;
- Expansion of the method repertoire, especially for learner-centered teaching in various medical learning environments;
- Development of one's personal teaching style;
- Introduction to established and alternative forms of assessment for typical teaching methods;
- Teaching competencies in the area of E-learning;
- Execution of teaching projects with peer feedback and reflection on one's own teaching.
Furthermore, you can find below the qualification framework of the medical program for habilitation candidates and medical staff in the "außerplanmäßiges Lehrverfahren" (ApL) of Faculty 11.
Note: The modules in the Medical Didactics Continuing Education Program at JLU Giessen fully comply with the guidelines of the Medizindidaktik Netzwerkes Deutschland (MDN) and are eligible for the nationwide recognized Medical Didactics Certificate MQ1.
The course blocks 1 and 2a ("Teaching and Assessing in Courses" and "Teaching and Assessing with Patients") cover the topics "Enabling Teaching and Learning" (32 AE) and "Assessing" (16 AE) and contribute 48 AE to the HDM Basic Certificate. Course block 2b ("Strengthening Scientific Methodology in Medical Education") is eligible for the topic "Curriculum Development in Higher Education" (16 AE). If all three course blocks are integrated into the HDM Basic Certificate, these topics are fully covered, and the certificate includes a supplementary note on medical didactics content totaling 64 AE.
