Tutors' Qualification

This is TuQu:

Imagine you are leading a tutorial on a complex topic. You have prepared thoroughly and feel highly motivated. Yet only a few minutes into your explanation, you look at your group and see puzzled faces. What you are trying to convey does not seem to resonate. Some students begin asking uncertain questions, while others appear confused or disengaged. You quickly realize that your way of presenting the material is not having the intended effect. It becomes clear that something is not working, and you start wondering how to turn the situation around.

This is where the Tutor Qualification Programme comes in. The programme is designed to support students who lead tutorials or study groups in communicating their subject knowledge in a clear, structured, and audience-oriented way. Participants learn how to convey complex content effectively and understandably by engaging with core principles of teaching and practical didactic techniques.

In addition, the programme introduces fundamental concepts from learning psychology, enabling tutors to better understand how students learn and how to respond to different learning needs. It also encourages participants to reflect critically on their own teaching practice and to continuously adapt and improve it.

Participants can choose from a range of workshops, selecting topics that best match their interests and needs. The programme not only strengthens didactic skills but also fosters social and personal competencies essential for successful peer teaching.

At the end of the programme, you will receive a certificate that records your participation and the workshops attended. Additionally, you have the opportunity to earn 1 ECTS credit, which may be recognised as a non-subject specific competence (AfK) for your studies. This depends on the respective institute or department."

Note: Tutors can create an accompanying reflective portfolio and then receive a certificate of qualification as a tutor. If necessary, they can have one credit point recognized for extracurricular skills.
