Course Content
In tutorials, tutors take on a dual role: they convey subject-specific content while simultaneously facilitating group processes. Clear explanations alone are not sufficient if discussions become unfocused or if no one participates. Conversely, moderation remains ineffective if content is not structured clearly.
This session therefore combines rhetorical foundations with moderation skills. The focus lies on communicative clarity, structuring techniques, activating participants, and handling typical tutorial situations with confidence. Through short exercises, participants reflect on their own role and practice concrete strategies to enhance clarity and discussion management in their tutorials.
Intended Learning Outcomes
By the end of the workshop, participants will be able to:
- identify key features of effective verbal and nonverbal communication
- describe the core responsibilities and limits of the moderator’s role
- differentiate between content delivery and process facilitation and apply both appropriately
- use structuring techniques to explain complex content clearly
- apply moderation strategies to activate participants and guide discussions
- respond appropriately to dominant speakers, digressions, or moments of silence
