LaMa Events - Colloquia

LaMa Colloquia

Twice per semester, the LaMa organizes detailed talk events dedicated to special subjects. Usually, two guest speakers are invited who look at the subject from two different perspectives.  There is sufficient time between the two talks as well as after the event for in-depth discussions with the guests.

These colloquia are open to the public, so guests from all university departments and from the interested public (e.g. staff of industry companies) are welcome.

Each of the presentations is usually 45 minutes long. Including discussion and break, a colloquium takes 2.5 to 3 hours.

Note: The ZfM/LaMa management is thankful for suggestions regarding possible colloquium subjects.

LaMa Events - Seminars

LaMa Seminars

LaMa Seminars consist of single presentations

- usually given by invited speakers. LaMa Seminars are often linked with institutes' or departments' colloquia. These seminars are open to the public, so guests from all university departments and from the interested public (e.g. staff of industry companies) are welcome.

The talks are usually 45 to 60 Minutes long, plus 15 to 30 minutes of discussion time.

LaMa Events Graduate Training

Courses for Graduate Training - especially for young Scientists in Materials Research

The advanced training courses in the field of "soft skills" for doctoral candidates, postdocs and master's students of the ZfM working groups are organized since summer 2022 mainly by the newly founded Graduate Center for Natural Sciences and Psychology (GGN). To participate in these events, you need to become a member of the GGN.

Workshops and lectures on subject-specific and methodological topics are still occasionally offered by the ZfM/LaMa. The management of the ZfM/LaMa appreciates suggestions for such events.
Usually, all participants of these events receive a certificate of attendance.

The dates of upcoming ZfM and GGN events for graduate training will appear here:

LaMa Events - Workshops

LaMa Workshops

Without any fixed sequence, the LaMa organizes topical events dedicated to in-depth discussions of special subjects. Short presentations of Giessen research groups are usually combined in an informal way to enhance scientific exchange and planning of future projects.

LaMa Workshops are usually non-public. Participation requires an invitation by the organizers. If interested, please contact the organizers directly.

Duration of the workshops is flexible (often half a working day).
