Explore Giessen Online

Since the cultural programme in Giessen is currently a bit limited due to the current situation, here are a few tips on online offers which you are welcome to look at.

  • University Sport at JLU Giessen

If you are just taking a break from studying or just need some exercise, you will find some online offers of our General University Sports here. The videos will be available on Instagram for the time being. If you don't have Instagram you can alternatively join a Stud.IP- group which links to AHS videos at ILIAS: Lecture Medial Studi-Pause Express.

  • Offer of the University Library

Since you cannot use our library at the moment, you can quench your thirst for knowledge by browsing the UB catalogue online. Search by title, author or topic and check which offers are available online. To do so, you can select the filter "Online" on the left and a selection will be displayed.

  • Mathematikum – On the website of the Mathematikum Giessen you will find a weekly puzzle or experiments to try out at home.
  • Although the Liebig Museum is currently closed, you can still get an impression online and take a panoramic tour.
  • Giessen Theatre: as the Stadttheater is unfortunately closed at the moment, there are no performances at the moment. But: the Easter Poetry Slam by Lars Ruppel about Giessen is available online as a download.
  • Ulenspiegel: The Giessen cult venue Ulenspiegel usually organizes a pub quiz once a month. This quiz is currently switched to an online version. Further information can be found on the Ulenspiegel Giessen Facebook page.
  • Explore Gießen: Would you like to simply get to know the city a bit or go out into nature? Pack your To-Go mug with coffee or tea and explore the Swan Pond or the Giessen City Forest. (see map). If you want to do some sports, you can find nice jogging routes along the river Lahn. Of course, please keep a safe distance.

Frankfurt:

You have seen all online offers in Giessen more than once, have already been for a walk and would actually like to take a lazy Museum Sunday? Although Frankfurt's art museums are currently closed, you can benefit from an extensive digital offer.

  • Städel Frankfurt. The largest art museum in Frankfurt with a very extensive collection offers a tour of the digital collection.
  • Did you really want to admire the exhibition "Fantastic Women" at the SCHIRN Kunsthalle Frankfurt? Take a look at the exhibition's digitorial or dive deep into portraits of various artists in the SCHIRN Mag.
  • Normally a classic, but unfortunately closed: The Film Museum in Frankfurt.
Professional tip: The Digital Museum alone does not sound exciting? Connect online via Skype, Whatsapp, etc., meet other students on a FaceWine and choose your favourite picture. Alternatively, create a kahoot for your fellow students with funny questions about what you learned in the museum, or recreate your favorite artwork and choose a winner. Of course, please keep everything socially distanced. Or to put it in the words of our president: We master this situation with our typical JLU creativity and pragmatism.

  • Do you have any suggestions for further offers from which your fellow students could benefit? Please send us an e-mail.
