Informationen about the Klipstein science award

With the Klipstein science award, which is endowed with 10,000 euros, the Dr. Ernst Leopold Klipstein Foundation recognizes fundamental research that contributes to improving environmentally friendly and sustainable agricultural production. In line with the foundation’s mission, the award is given in particular to scientists whose research focuses on phytopathological and plant-biotechnological research and who have been able to achieve groundbreaking, interdisciplinary and internationally recognized findings for the development and maintenance of sustainable biosystems for resource utilisation.

The award is intended specifically for researchers whose scientific achievements have been made available to the public through significant international publications in peer-reviewed academic journals recognized within the scientific community.

Examples of research areas with high scientific and societal impact include, for instance, the sustainable production of crops using modern breeding techniques such as genome editing, the development of new holistic plant protection methods that utilize environmentally friendly yet effective non-chemically synthesized plant protection agents or beneficial microorganisms ("biologicals"), or the use of non-coding RNA for controlling plant diseases.
