Doctoral students looking for an excellent research environment will find optimal PhD conditions and comprehensive support at the GCSC. They are accompanied by a primary supervisor at JLU. The second supervisor can also be an external (international) professor.
The GCSC particularly welcomes applications from students who:
- graduated with excellent marks from two-year research-track master’s programmes in the humanities or social sciences no longer than two years ago, and;
- propose a research project of outstanding academic quality which contributes substantially to one or more of our research areas.
Since the foundation of the GCSC, postdoctoral researchers have played a crucial role at the Centre. Alongside working on their own projects, they are also involved in a variety of collaborative research contexts and international networks. At an early stage in their careers, our postdoctoral researchers already undertake important coordination and leadership roles in cooperation with the doctoral candidates at the GCSC. They work on projects in conjunction with other researchers on-site and also benefit from the GCSC network, which includes renowned institutions at both a national and international level. Postdocs at the GCSC are situated in a decidedly interdisciplinary research context, where their work focuses especially on current research concepts and topics within the study of culture.
The GCSC together with the deanships of the faculties 03, 04 and 05 supports excellent students who have entered the final phase before their MA or teacher training degree and who want to pursue a Ph.D. in the study of culture. Select courses of the GCSC core curriculum, as well as workshops and events designed specifically for this stage of your academic career will help you master the transition into the Ph.D. phase.
