Individual and Group: The Construction of Identity in Imperial Group Portraits

 

The project aims to document, analyze, and assess the utilization of group portraits as a medium for political discourse during the Roman imperial period. Currently, three work packages are in development:

1. Production of a monograph focusing on the portrayal of princes in the early imperial era.
2. Conducting a diachronic study to explore the role of group portraits in the political discourse of various societies.
3. Organization of an exhibition to examine the operation and reception of group portraits.

These components will collectively contribute to a comprehensive understanding of the function and significance of group portraits within political communication.
