Inorganic chemistry with a focus on materials and energy

AG Lepple is working on the development and investigation of innovative high-performance ceramics for efficient energy conversion and storage.

Central focuses:

  • New ceramics for high-temperature applications that are stable over long periods in aggressive atmospheres
  • New ceramics for energy storage (electrode materials, ion conductors)
  • New ceramics for sustainable energy generation and catalysis

Further information on the research topics of the working group can be found here.

Announcements

CIMTEC 2026,
Perugia
15.06.-19.06.2026

In the summer, part of the working group will participate in the 16th International Conference on Modern Materials and Technologies (CIMTEC) in Italy.

Prof. Lepple has been invited to give a presentation entitled “Polymer-Derived Ceramics as Thermal and Environmental Barrier Coatings,” which she will deliver on Wednesday afternoon in session CA-3.

Alina, Giulia, Benjamin, and Manuel will also present their research in the form of lectures in various sessions.

News

New paper published High-Temperature CMAS Corrosion of Multicomponent Equimolar Rare-Earth Zirconates (Y0.2Nd0.2Sm0.2Gd0.2Dy0.2)2Zr2O7 and (Nd0.2Sm0.2Gd0.2Dy0.2Er0.2)2Zr2O7

Jonas Pflug has published the first results of his research in a paper. He is investigating the corrosion resistance of multicomponent rare-earth zirconates for use as thermal insulation layers in aircraft turbines.

Congratulations!

New paper published 2026 Roadmap on compositionally complex and high entropy materials for energy applications

In collaboration with numerous researchers, Prof. Lepple has published a new article. It focuses on future research into multicomponent and high-entropy materials for applications in the field of energy transformation. Together with Prof. Ulrich from the University of Bayreuth, Prof. Lepple has authored a chapter on high-entropy materials in aircraft turbines.

Frühjahrs-symposium 2026, Köln 10.03.-13.03.2026

Anna and Manuel attended the Spring Symposium in Cologne again this year.

Manuel presented his research in a poster titled “Multicomponent Rare-Earth Zirconates as New Thermal Barrier Coatings: Reaction Behavior at the Al₂O₃ Interface”.
