Research
Research
Our work broadly centers on food economics and consumer behavior, particularly how product differentiation, food labeling, and nutritional information influence consumer preferences and purchase decisions. We also apply econometric methods to questions of dietary quality, adoption and market participation, often integrating theoretical and empirical approaches.
Methods
A mixed-methods approach combines for example focus group interviews in order to generate qualitative data in a first examination step with a survey to generate quantitative data in a second step. For analyzing quantitative data different econometric methods are used.
Regional focus and research network
We do research in Germany but also in transition countries of the former Soviet Union, particularly in Central Asia and in recent years especially in Sub-Saharan Africa (e.g. Kenya, Nigeria, Uganda, Rwanda). Close research collaborations exist with among other researchers from the Alliance Bioversity International, the University of Abomey-Calavi in Benin and Kenyatta University in Kenya.
