Smarsly, Bernd
Advanced Functional Nanomaterials
The Smarsly research group focuses on the development of solution-based methods for the synthesis of nanostructures, in the form of coatings, powders and monolithic materials. Next to metal oxides synthetic strategies for meso- and macroporous non-graphitic carbons are major research topics. Furthermore, particular emphasis is put on the structural and physicochemical characterization of such materials, which is conducted as routine analysis and also to further develop characterization methods. The analytical techniques comprise scattering/diffraction methods (XRD, SAXS), porosimetry (physisorption, Hg-porosimetry), electron microscopy, as well as electrochemistry (cyclovoltammetry).
