Nutritional Psychology

We are doing research on questions such as: Why do we eat what we eat? Which psychological factors determine our food intake? And how can we define a “healthy” eating behavior from a psychological perspective? Please see “Research” for more information.

Our research focuses on obesity, psychological determinants of a healthy diet, family & eating, sustainable nutrition and psychodynamic aspects of eating and weight.

In the curriculum, we have been offering the BP‑185 “Nutrition Psychology” module since the Summer Semester 23, which provides an introduction to nutrition psychology. Starting with the Winter Semester 23/24, we offer the MP‑249 “Eating and Weight Disorders” module, which focuses on eating and weight disorders (including anorexia nervosa, binge eating disorder, and obesity). Also beginning with the Winter Semester 23/24, we provide the MP‑251 “Feminist Perspectives on Body Image and Weight,” which explores the psychological interconnections between body, gender, and society.

A new addition to our teaching portfolio, effective from the Summer Semester 26, is MP‑266 “Conversation techniques in nutrition counseling and therapy.” This module will enable students to develop their counseling skills in a practical, hands‑on setting.

Please see “Lectures/Thesis” for more information.
