Overview

The Bachelor's programme "Russophone Studies" will start in the winter semester 2020/21. It combines the major subject Russian Studies/Russian with the minor subject Eastern European History. The subject of the programme is the analysis of the language, literature, culture and history of Russia as well as Russian-speaking cultures outside of Russia (especially in the former Soviet republics and Germany). The specialist academic education is flanked by intensive Russian language training for students of all language levels - from beginners to native speakers.

The Bachelor's programme is composed of:

  • an extensive major in Russian Studies/Russian and
  • a minor in Eastern European History

 

Major subject Russian Studies / Russian

In the main subject Russian Studies/Russian you will deal literary and cultural studies and linguistics. Intensive practical language training will be of particular importance.

 

Minor subject Eastern European History

In the minor subject Eastern European History you will deal with various aspects of the Russian Empire and the Soviet Union. The historical method with heuristics, criticism and interpretation will be of particular importance.

 

The programme qualifies students for an academic career as well as for a wide range of professional fields such as business, cultural and political institutions, journalism, publishing, public employers, the media, etc. Through early contact with interdisciplinary research, the programme offers an excellent basis for interdisciplinary Master's programmes.

  • General higher education entrance qualification (= Abitur or comparable qualification), Fachhochschule entrance qualification, master craftsman's examination, higher education entrance qualification for professionally qualified persons. More...

  • Please note that applicants with a foreign higher education entrance qualification are also required to provide proof of German language skills. More...

The intake capacity of this degree programme is not limited.
The application for the winter semester 2020/21 must be received by the Registrar's Office of the University of Giessen by September 30, 2020. Application portal
