Die Gruppe wurde 2019 an der Norwegian Theatre Academy gegründet und untersucht seitdem das Phänomen der Synchronizität in unterschiedlichen sozialen und kulturellen Kontexten. Ihre Arbeiten bewegen sich im Spannungsfeld zwischen queerer Körperpraxis, Popästhetik und dokumentarischer Performance. BOYS IN SYNC* is a transdisciplinary performance collective with members from Norway, Sweden, Denmark, and Germany. The group was founded in 2019 at the Norwegian Theatre Academy and has since been exploring the phenomenon of synchronicity in various social and cultural contexts. Their work operates at the intersection of queer body practices, pop aesthetics, and documentary performance.
DE: 1968 öffnet sich der Eiserne Vorhang einen Spaltbreit: Auf dem Musikfest „Intervision“ im tschechoslowakischen Karlovy Vary stehen erstmals Stars aus Ost- und Westeuropa auf der Bühne, nur wenige Wochen, bevor der Einmarsch sowjetischer Panzer die Kulturpolitik des Prager Frühlings beendet. Erst nach dem Fall der Berliner Mauer kommt es zu einem erneuten gesamteuropäischen Musikwettbewerb: diesmal lädt der westeuropäische Rundfunk zum gemeinsamen Eurovision Song Contest ein. Der Intervision gerät in Vergessenheit. Zum Glück hat die europäische Performancegruppe BOYS* IN SYNC eine Leidenschaft für Liederwettbewerbe und große Showmomente! In InterEuroVision beleuchten sie den vergessenen Intervision Wettbewerb, performen die Hits aus Ost und West in ihren Muttersprachen und fragen nach den politischen Dimensionen beider Songcontests: Welche Symbolwirkung hat der Intervision für uns heute? Warum wissen, wir so wenig über dieses historische Ereignis? Und was sagt das über unser kollektives europäisches Gedächtnis aus? Bis heute beeinflussen europäische und internationale Konflikte den Eurovision Song Contest und erschweren den Anspruch einer unpolitischen, freudigen Ausstrahlung. Gleichzeitig ist der Eurovision zu einer Bühne für queeres Empowerment geworden. So unpolitisch internationale Gesangswettbewerbe wie der Eurovision Song Contest oder der Intervision auch erscheinen sollen, sie sind immer auch politisch motiviert. Die Showeinlagen, Kommentare und Songs der Shows von 1968 erzählen uns von diesem Zusammenhang. Eingeladen zu den Autor:innentheatertagen 2025 ans Deutsche Theater Berlin. Eine Koproduktion mit Residenz Schauspiel Leipzig in Zusammenarbeit mit der Kaserne Basel, gefördert durch FFUK Norway und den Fonds Darstellende Künste aus Mitteln der Beauftragten der Bundesregierung für Kultur und Medien.
ENG: In 1968, the Iron Curtain opens just a crack: at the music festival “Intervision” in Karlovy Vary, Czechoslovakia, stars from East and West Europe stand together on stage for the first time, only weeks before the invasion of Soviet tanks brings an end to the cultural politics of the Prague Spring. Only after the fall of the Berlin Wall does another pan-European music competition emerge: this time, Western European broadcasters invite everyone to join the shared Eurovision Song Contest. Intervision fades into oblivion. Fortunately, the European performance group BOYS* IN SYNC has a passion for song contests and great show moments! In InterEuroVision, they cast light on the forgotten Intervision competition, perform hits from East and West in their native languages, and ask about the political dimensions of both song contests: What symbolic meaning does Intervision hold for us today? Why do we know so little about this historical event? And what does that say about our collective European memory? To this day, European and international conflicts influence the Eurovision Song Contest and challenge its claim to an unpolitical, joyful spirit. At the same time, Eurovision has become a stage for queer empowerment. As unpolitical as international singing competitions such as the Eurovision Song Contest or Intervision may appear, they have always been politically motivated as well. The performances, commentaries, and songs from 1968 can tell us about this connection. Invited to the Autor:innentheatertage 2025 at Deutsches Theater Berlin. A co-production with Residenz Schauspiel Leipzig in collaboration with Kaserne Basel, funded by FFUK Norway and the Fonds Darstellende Künste, supported by the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media.
