Transcatheter aortic valve intervention (Kim)

Research Focus

The research focus of the working group revolves around several key areas within the field of Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR) and related interventions. Here are the primary research emphases: 1. Periprocedural Imaging: - The group investigates the use of imaging techniques, such as Multidetector Computed Tomography (MDCT), to optimize the placement and outcomes of TAVR procedures. The SCOPE I study, for example, compared different types of transcatheter heart valves (THVs) and identified predictors for procedural complications. 2. Artificial Intelligence in TAVR: - The application of artificial intelligence (AI) for automated measurements of anatomical parameters is a significant focus. The group aims to develop and validate AI-based software to enhance the accuracy and efficiency of preoperative planning for TAVR. 3. Procedural Optimization: - The group explores strategies to optimize TAVR procedures, such as the SLIM (Single arterial access and low contrast agent volume) approach. This includes reducing contrast media usage, minimizing the risk of acute kidney injury, and improving overall procedural safety and efficacy. 4. Innovative Concepts: - The development and evaluation of innovative concepts, such as the Stent-in-Valve-Implantation (SIVI) technique, are crucial. SIVI aims to reduce risks associated with traditional Valve-in-Valve (ViV) procedures, including coronary obstruction and increased thrombogenicity. 5. Device Comparisons: - Comparative studies between different THVs, such as Neo2 and Ultra, are conducted to assess their performance in terms of mortality, complications, and long-term durability. The group evaluates these devices to identify the most effective and safe options for patients. 6. Long-Term Durability: - The long-term durability of THVs, including Neo and Neo2, is a critical area of research. The group aims to gather data on the longevity and performance of these devices over extended periods to ensure sustained patient benefits. 7. Clinical Outcomes: - The group focuses on clinical outcomes, including mortality rates, complication rates, and patient quality of life following TAVR procedures. This involves both short-term and long-term follow-up studies to assess the overall effectiveness and safety of TAVR. In summary, the working group's research is centered on improving the precision, safety, and long-term outcomes of TAVR procedures through advanced imaging, AI applications, procedural optimizations, innovative techniques, and comprehensive device evaluations.
