Instructions for Posters and Presentations
Here you can find formal and other requierements, for the presentation of your talk or poster.
General considerations
When preparing your poster and presentation, please keep in mind that you will be presenting to an audience that comes from many different disciplines and most likely will not be aware of the conventions within your own field of research. Therefore, you might need to take some time to introduce your topic and explain the most important basic principles.
Please present the work you have done in your own doctoral project. If you do not have many results yet, that is totally fine. In that case, you may also present your hypothesis, planned methodology/experiments, projects and aims.
Both Posters and Talks should contain the GGL logo.

Talks

Please save your presentation in a PowerPoint Presentation (*.pptx; Bildschirmpräsentation in German) in order to keep it to a reasonable file size. If you use pictures, please make sure to resize them for on-screen presentation. |
| Deadline: | Since all talks need to be checked and loaded onto the conference notebook and the programme starts early on Wednesday, Please send your talk to office@ggl.uni-giessen.de by 19 September, 10 am. Alternatively files can be transferred via Hessenbox. In case you need to use the Hessenbox please contact Lorna.Lueck@ggl.uni-giessen.de.Two GGL members will be in charge of the notebook and the presentations on it during the conference in case you need to make any last-minute changes. |
| Schedule: | Please consult the (preliminary) programme for the time of your talk. You will have 15 minutes in total, 10 minutes for your talk and 5 minutes for discussion. Please be fair to your audience and to the following speakers by sticking to this time limit. |
Posters
| Paper format: | Please prepare your poster in A0 (84 x118 cm) format, portrait (not landscape). |
| Deadline for printing: | If your supervisor/department/group is unable to pay for the printing, the GGL can assist you with the payment for the printing of the poster. In that case, please inform the GGL Office that you need financial support and have your poster ready for printing by 12 September 2023 at the latest. |
| Mounting: | The poster can be mounted from 19 September, 2.00 pm onwards and should be mounted on 20 September 9.00 am at the latest. Pins will be provided by the GGL. If you cannot be there at that time, please arrange for a colleague from your section or your group to mount your poster. All poster boards will be numbered and you need to know your number when mounting your poster. These numbers as well as the time when your poster will be evaluated will be provided to you via e-mail. Poster should stay in place for the whole time of the conference. |
| Presentation: |
Please be at your poster during your scheduled time to present it. In addition to interested GGL members, a poster evaluation committee (consisting of doctoral candidates, postdocs and professors) will visit your poster and you will present your poster to them. The poster sessions are split into two time slots. After and before your presentation you have time to talk to other presenters during your sessions. Please prepare a short introduction to your project (4-8 minutes). Your presentation should form the basis for scientific exchange on your topic and should not exceed 8 minutes. During your presentation time slot, the poster committee will be your main audience to ask questions and discuss. Overall 13 minutes should not be exceeded for your presentation and discussion with the poster committee. |
| Evaluation: | The points for the posters will be decided by the committee as a team and will be based on 3 categories: content, presentation and layout. For each of the categories you can reach up to 10 points. |
