LECTURE in the GGS Teaching Assistantship Programme 2018:

Emmanuel Ametepeh: The Role of Tropical Forest in Climate Change Mitigation: The African Perspectives

(no regisration needed)

ABSTRACT
Climate change is a “planetary emergency” which demands collaboration and cooperation of the global community including countries of the South particularly those with significant amount of tropical forests. Approximately 20% of the world’s carbon emissions is attributed to tropical deforestation, and consequently forests are the second most significant contributor to global warming next to fossil fuels. The need to protect tropical forests has therefore become important more than before. The lecture aims to impact students with the knowledge of the importance of tropical forests to the climate problematic particularly in relation to the African forests and context. In doing so challenges related to natural resource management on the African continent, particularly in Ghana would be highlighted.
