The first part of the workshop focuses on the general question of what our roles as university teachers are and how we as teachers can motivate students and promote learning in the international classroom. We will first get to know the Constructive Alignment framework (Biggs & Tang 20114) as our basis and learn how to apply a taxonomy of learning outcomes to our teaching contexts. In addition, we will identify strategies on how to motivate student learning (and how not to) and get to know methods that encourage active learning in the classroom.

In the second part of the workshop, we will focus more specifically on the special context of teaching in a multilingual, multicultural classroom environment. We will identify and discuss the various shapes of diversity in such classrooms and reflect on the interplay with the local learning culture. An analysis of potential challenges for teachers and students will be our starting point to devise first ideas on how to leverage diversity in our (future) teaching contexts.
