At Faculty 08 - Biology and Chemistry, we offer three Master's degree programmes taught entirely in English.

M.Sc. Advanced Materials

From the winter semester 2024/25, students have the opportunity to study the Master's degree programme Advanced Materials entirely in English. The research-oriented Master's programme teaches you how to tailor modern materials for applications in energy, medicine, mobility, and more. Combining chemistry and physics, the programme offers hands-on experience in cutting-edge research projects in Giessen. From the start, you’ll specialize in a research topic, gain practical lab skills, and develop innovative solutions for tomorrow’s technologies.

M.Sc. Global Change: Ecosystem Science and Policy (Joint Degree)

The Master's degree programme Global Change: Ecosystem Science and Policy (M.Sc.) is a degree programme in cooperation with University College Dublin (UCD). It prepares you to tackle global challenges like climate change and biodiversity loss – combining life sciences, policy, and data skills. Study in Germany and Ireland, gain hands-on experience abroad, and graduate in just 16 months with a joint Master's degree from JLU and UCD.

M.Sc. Sustainable Chemistry

The Master's degree programme Sustainable Chemistry is a new international degree programme of Faculty 08 at JLU, starting in the winter semester 2024/25. It covers environmental, economic and social issues such as resource consumption, energy efficiency, climate protection, and health and safety in the context of the development and use of chemical products and processes.

The programme is taken over a period of four semesters. In addition to an introduction to the principles of sustainability, the modules in the first year cover topics such as sustainable organic chemistry, sustainable energy technologies and the circular economy for chemical processes. The courses are taught by experts at JLU who are internationally renowned in various areas of sustainable chemistry. The programme also teaches important soft skills such as innovation management.
