Scholarships for the Summer School on Circular Economy at University of Padua, Italy

Scholarships available for the summer school on sustainability, circular economy, and related topics, taking place at University of Padua (Italy), between July 17 to July 22.

It is our privilege to draw your attention to a summer school on sustainability, circular economy, and related topics, taking place at University of Padua (Italy), in the period 17.7.-22.7.23. The program focuses on recycling, remanufacturing, recovery, refurbishment (R4), spanning a broad range of topics and does not require specific knowledge/background in chemistry or materials sciences.

Target Group

This summer school invites doctoral students of all disciplines in natural sciences, i.e. chemistry, materials sciences, but also doctoral students in physics, geography, etc. We are convinced that this summer school will provide substantial benefit for you, as various experts in the field will participate, dealing with quite diverse issues on circular economy, sustainability, etc.

Funding and Organisation

This summer school is a central part of a EU-project on advancing teaching in the field of sustainability ("CLOCKS") between JLU, University of Padua (Italy), University of Ljubljana and industrial partners. Hence, with JLU being part of the consortium, JLU students are particularly welcome and encouraged to participate. On JLU side, Prof. Bernd Smarsly and Prof. Richard Göttlich (chemistry) are official members of the scientific and steering committees, and the project is supported by the GGN (Giessen Graduate Center for Natural Sciences and Psychology).

Scholarships and Application Procedure

As part of this project, on JLU side we are able to provide a number of ca. 13-14 stipends (ca. 900 € each) for JLU doctoral students, which will probably suffice to cover all expenses. Of course, participation is possible without receiving such scholarship. The decision on the scholarships will be made by a commission, comprising the scientific committee of CLOCKS, and on JLU-side Prof. Smarsly and GGN executive board.

For your application to the summer school, please proceed as follows:

1. Please register using the official registration form, indicated below: https://clocksproject.eu/join/join-sumer-school-padova-2023/

2. Since we expect more JLU applicants than scholarships available, in addition to the aforementioned registration, please send the following digitized documents to Prof. Smarsly (smarsly@uni-giessen.de) and GGN (mail@ggn.uni-giessen.de), using the subject "CLOCKS application":

- letter of motivation (1 page max.), in English.

- Tabular CV, especially including your Bsc and MSc study programs, and field of discipline of your doctoral studies.

- Copies of Bsc and Msc certificates

You may use a link to a cloud depository ("Hessenbox", etc.), of course.

Application Deadline

Applications for the scholarships will be considered until (including) April 17, 2023.
