The ERDF Innovation Laboratory "High-performance materials" closes the gap at the interface between fundamental university research and economic product development in the area of materials research along the development chain. For partner companies in joint research projects, it provides low-threshold access to a broad research infrastructure. Through such collaborations, partner companies can efficiently resolve bottlenecks in their equipment and receive competent scientific support.

Six world market leaders in their fields have already been won as project partners and pilot projects have been defined together with them. The six pilot projects are devoted to material issues of future mobility concepts and thus address one of the key areas of the German government's high-tech strategy 2025. The common focus of the pilot projects on this key area already makes it possible to specifically test the possibility of leveraging synergies. This is what makes the innovation laboratory particularly valuable. This makes the innovation laboratory an organizational structure tailored to the needs of industry, which provides a comprehensive portfolio of services for scientific research projects in the field of material development. This portfolio satisfies the demand of the regionally based, often also world market leaders, for fast and low-threshold opportunities for cooperation in pre-economic research and development on and of materials. The "high-performance materials" innovation laboratory is intended to become a trademark and engine of innovation in the region. It will support regional companies efficiently and sustainably in their research tasks and help to secure their competitiveness.
