Doctoral Mobility
Erasmus+ offers doctoral students a wide range of options for going abroad. Depending on their affiliation with JLU Giessen, doctoral candidates may be eligible for funding to participate in workshops, advanced courses, laboratory internships, job shadowing opportunities, short-term teaching positions and other activities.
Erasmus+ funding opportunities
For doctoral candidates who are enrolled at JLU or have been accepted to do their PhD at JLU.
Study Period - Long Term Mobility
- One- or two-semesters stay at JLU’s Erasmus+ partner universities
- Participation in courses can be combined with research activities provided these are supervised and confirmed by the host university.
- The call for applications and the allocation of places is managed by the Erasmus departmental coordinators in the faculties and departments.

Study Period - Short-Term Mobility
- Short-term stays at JLU’s Erasmus + partner universities
- Duration: 5–30 days

Traineeship - Long-Term Mobility
- Independently organised internships relevant to PhD
- The host Institution can be chosen freely, e.g. higher education institutions, research facilities or companies. Stays at EU institutions and those undertaken as part of EU projects are excluded.
- Duration: 2-12 months (maximum funding period: 8 months)

Traineeship - Short-Term Mobility
- Independently organised internships relevant to PhD
- The host institution can be chosen freely, e.g. higher education institutions, research facilities or companies. Stays at EU institutions and those undertaken as part of EU projects are excluded.
- Duration: 5-30 days

For doctoral candidates who are employed at JLU.
Training Mobility
- Independently organised advanced training and further education activities
- Duration: 2-60 days (maximum funding period: 30 days)
- Funded activities include language courses, job shadowing opportunities and specialist courses as well as activities designed to develop skills relevant to doctoral studies.

Teaching Mobility
- Short term lectureships at JLU's Erasmus + partner universities
- Duration: 2-60 days (maximum funding period: 30 days)
- The teaching load consists of 8 hours per week, or any period of stay shorter than a week. Teaching mobilities can be combined with training activities. In this case, the minimum number of teaching hours per week or for a shorter period is reduced to 4 hours.

Participation in conferences is not covered by the Erasmus+ Programme. The DAAD, for example, provides funding for participation in scientific conferencess abroad (Kongressreisenprogramm).
