The registration phase for our German courses is closed for the winter semester 2023/24. Registration for the summer semester 2024 will start in March 2024. Please check this website regularly. Registration details will be published here.
About the evening courses
- We offer our evening courses from beginner level (A1) through levels A2, B1, B2, C1.1 to C1.2.
- Each course includes 52 teaching units (UE) in the winter semester and 48 in the summer semester.
- It is possible to start at any level.
- You can achieve 3 ECTS per course.
- Course sizes: min. 5, max. 25 participants.

Deadlines and dates
Winter semester 2023/24:
- Registration period: 08.09.2023 to 12.10.2023
- Placement test: 18.10.2023 (online)
- Start of courses: 23.10.2023 / 24.10.2023
- End of courses: 07.02.2024 / 08.02.2024
- You can change your course only until the end of the 2nd course week.

- Programme students (Erasmus+ and others)
- PhD students
- Visiting academics (and their relatives)
- Staff members (and their relatives)
...of the Justus Liebig University (JLU) and the Technical University of Central Hesse (THM).
Unfortunately, external individuals are not permitted to attend.The evening courses are not intended for VIP students.
If you belong to the group of VIP students, please register for a German course as part of the VIP programme.How much does the course cost?
We would like to inform you that the course fees have been increased starting winter semester 2023/24.
- The evening courses are free of charge for programme students (Erasmus+ etc.).
- Doctoral students, visiting scholars, staff members and their relatives and freemovers only pay a small fee for participation: in the winter semester € 198 for 52 teaching units (UE) and in the summer semester € 182 for 48 UE.
Do I have to take a placement test?
The following participants do NOT have to take the placement test:
- Participants without any knowledge of German
- Participants who already passed an evening course with us. Please send us your Leistungsschein.
- Participants who can prove the language competence and the corresponding level with another acquired certificate. Please remember to upload the certificate of a passed course in the application form. This should not be older than 2 years.
If this does not apply to you, you must take the placement test. The placement test will take place online on 18.10.2023. Those who have to take the placement test will be informed separately by our DaF office. Please be patient until then.

Registration for our evening courses will take place in the winter semester 2023/24 from 8 Sept to 12 Oct 2023.
The registration is currently closed.
Payment

The German evening courses are free of charge for programme students (Erasmus+ and others).
Doctoral students, visiting scholars and their relatives and freemovers only pay a small fee for participation:
- in the winter semester 198,- € for 52 units
- in the summer semester 182,- € for 48 units
The course fee is due in full upon confirmation of registration and must be transferred to the account of the Justus Liebig University Giessen no later than two weeks after receipt of the payment advice. The punctuality of payment is determined by the receipt of the fee on the university account. Should a participant miss the payment or not make it within the stated period, he or she will be deleted from the registration or participant list and will not be able to start the course.
Withdrawal

Withdrawal from evening courses is possible up to 10 days before the start of the course. The withdrawal must be declared in writing to the course office of the AAA. An administrative fee of 20% of the course fee will be retained or claimed. The timeliness of the withdrawal is determined by the receipt of the written declaration in the course office of the AAA.
