Evening Courses in Winter Semester 2026/2027
In the winter semester of 2026/27, the German as a Foreign Language department of the International Office will once again offer a wide range of evening courses for international university members of JLU and THM.

Register on Stud.IP
After receiving your binding booking confirmation, you will receive the access data for your course on Stud.IP. Registration on Stud.IP completes your booking.

1. Prerequisites
To attend an evening course at JLU, you should have your JLU ID, your EEA bank account and your proof of language proficiency ready before registration. If you have any further questions, please feel free to consult our FAQs or contact us.

For enrolment, you will need proof of language proficiency depending on your language level.
- Option 1 - Language certificate: Please upload your language certificate from your last German course (transcript of records, etc.).
- Option 2 - Placement test: If you do not have proof of language proficiency, we ask you to take a placement test (max. processing time: 90 minutes): https://einstufungstests.klett-sprachen.de/eks/DaF-A1-C1/
- A1.1 | No proof required. Please have an empty PDF file ready. You will need to upload this during the onboarding process in the booking system.

When is my registration phase?
This is how registration will work starting 1 October: The registration period will last a total of 15 days (from 1 to 15 October) and is divided by target groups. Each target group initially receives its own booking period. Booking is possible between 8am and 6pm.
Registration for
- Exchange students of JLU (1-15 October)
- JLU degree-seeking students and freemovers (5-6 October)
- Doctoral students (7 October)
- Employees and visiting scholars (8-9 October)
- THM students (12 October)
On 15 October, registration opens for all remaining available course places regardless of the group of people.
What happens after registration?
- Provisional booking confirmation:
- For the selected course or admission to the course, approval by the DaF course office is required. You will only receive a final booking confirmation after this approval. This may take a few days. Please have a little patience. If you do not receive a place in the course, we will inform you.
- Binding booking confirmation
- After successful verification of your registration, you will receive a binding booking confirmation at the email address you provided.
- In the confirmation email you will find all the important information about your booked course, including date, time and location.
- Feedback
- Your opinion counts: After completion of the course, you will have the opportunity to give us feedback. Your opinion helps us to continuously improve our offerings.

General course information
- We offer our evening courses from beginner level (A1) to advanced level (C1). Entry is possible at any level.
- The courses take place on Mondays and Wednesdays or Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6:15 PM to 7:45 PM.
- The courses comprise 52 teaching units (TU) in the winter semester and 48 TU in the summer semester, equivalent to 3 ECTS.
- Class size: max. 25 participants.

Note for doctoral students (If your institute covers the course fees)
- Book a course: Enrol as usual in the booking system.
- Issue SEPA direct debit mandate: Confirm the provisional mandate in the booking process.
- Send an email to daf-aaa@admin.uni-giessen.de: Please indicate in the subject line: "YOUR NAME, doctoral student, institute covers invoice" and send the contact details of the institute/payer:
- Name of the institution
- Invoice address
- Contact person (name, email, telephone)
- Possibly different email for invoices
- Invoicing: We will send the invoice to your institute.
- After payment: Once the institute has paid, we will delete your SEPA direct debit mandate. No additional costs will be incurred for you.

5. Registration on Stud.IP
After your binding booking confirmation, you will receive the access data for your evening course on Stud.IP from the German course office. For registration you will need your JLU account. Your booking is only completed with registration on Stud.IP. THM participants will be contacted separately by the German course office and will receive a local Stud.IP account.

The evening courses are expressly not intended for VIP students.

Do I have to take a placement test?
You do NOT have to / should NOT take the placement test...
- if you are starting with an A1.1 course.
- if you have already attended and passed an evening course with us. Please remember to upload the transcript of records in the booking system.
- if you upload one of the following language certificates in the booking system: Goethe-Zertifikat, Sprachdiplom der KMK, TestDaF, ÖSD and telc certificate.
If this does not apply to you, you must take the placement test. We recommend the test from Klett Verlag. Please save the result as a PDF and observe the processing time of 90 minutes. You can find the test here: https://einstufungstests.klett-sprachen.de/eks/DaF-A1-C1/
What happens if I cannot attend the course after all?
- Course changes are possible until the end of the first week of the course. Please send us an email to daf-aaa with your change request and the reason for the course change.
- Cancellations are possible up to 10 days before the course starts. A 20% administration fee will be withheld from the refund of the course fees. If you cancel at a later date, the full course fee will be charged.
