General Course Information
- We offer our evening courses from beginner level (A1) to advanced level (C1).
Entry is possible at any level. - The courses take place on Mondays and Wednesdays or Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6:15 PM to 7:45 PM.
- The courses comprise 52 teaching units (TU) in the winter semester and 48 TU in the summer semester, equivalent to 3 ECTS.
- Class size: max. 25 participants.

- Book the course: Log in as usual via the booking system.
- Provide SEPA direct debit mandate: Confirm preliminary mandate during the booking process.
- Send an email to daf-aaa@admin.uni-giessen.de: Please indicate in the subject line: !YOUR NAME, doctoral candidate, institute covers the invoice! and send us the contact details of the institute/payer:
- Name of the institution
- Billing address
- Contact person (name, email, phone)
- Any different email for invoices
- Invoicing: We will invoice your institute.
- After payment: Once the institute has paid, we will delete your SEPA direct debit mandate. There are no additional costs.
How do I register?
1. Before Registration
- A1.1 | No proof required
- All other levels | Prepare proof
- Option 1 - Placement test: We kindly ask you to test your German skills and save the result as a PDF file (max. duration: 90 minutes): https://einstufungstests.klett-sprachen.de/eks/DaF-A1-C1/
- Option 2 - Language certificate: Alternatively, you can upload your language certificate from the last German course during registration (see below).
2. Registration in the New Booking System
- Register in the digital booking system of uninow using a JLU or THM account
- Have your language proof ready.
- Fill in all onboarding fields.
- Indicate your status.
- Note: Do not click "back" during the registration process.
3. Choose a Course
- Explore course offerings: Browse our DaF courses at different levels. All German Courses
- View course details: Click on the course that interests you to get more information.
- Book only one course! Attention: You are only allowed to book one course per semester
- Go directly to your level
4. Join the Waiting List
How to get on the waiting list
- Select a course and click "Join waiting list".
- The DaF team will review your registration. This may take a few days.
- If there are available spots and you meet the requirements, you will receive an invitation link.
- The invitation link is active for 24 hours. Book within this time frame, otherwise your spot will expire.
5. Book Online

- Book a course
- Click on the invitation link: You will be redirected to the booking system and can start the booking process.
- Click the booking button: Click the "Add to cart" button.
- Booking process: Follow the step-by-step instructions during the booking process.
- Booking confirmation
- Confirmation email: After successful booking, you will receive a confirmation email at the address you provided.
- Course details: The confirmation email contains all important information about your booked course, including date, time, and location.
- Cancellation and course changes
- Flexibility: If you want to change or cancel your booking, you can do so easily via your user account.
- Course changes are possible until the end of the first course week.
- Cancellations are possible up to 10 days before the course starts. A 20% administrative fee will be retained when refunding course fees. For cancellations after this period, the full course fee will be charged.

- Feedback
- Your opinion matters: After completing the course, you will have the opportunity to provide feedback. Your opinion helps us continuously improve our services.

The evening courses are explicitly not intended for VIP students.

How much does the course cost?
- The evening courses to accompany studies are free of charge for JLU students, THM students and program students (Erasmus+ etc.).
- Doctoral candidates, guest researchers, staff members and their family members as well as freemovers pay only a small fee to participate: in Winter semester €218 for 52 TU and in summer semester €202 for 48 TU.
- If you withdraw, please observe the fee regulation.
Do I need to take a placement test?
You do NOT need to participate in the placement test,...
- if you have already taken and passed an evening course with us. Please remember to upload the performance certificate in the booking system.
- if you have already taken and passed an international university summer course or an international spring course. Please remember to upload the certificate in the booking system.
- if you upload one of the following language certificates to the booking system: Goethe Certificate, Sprachdiplom der KMK, TestDaF, ÖSD, and telc Certificate.
If this does not apply to you, you must take the placement test. We recommend the test from Klett-Verlag. Please save the result as a PDF and adhere to the 90-minute time limit. You can find the test here: https://einstufungstests.klett-sprachen.de/eks/DaF-A1-C1/
