Welcome to the Research Training Group 2204
„Substitute Materials for Sustainable Energy Technologies“

  since April 2016 funded by
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft e.V.

Modern technologies in the fields of energy supply and electronics rely on a variety of highly specialized functional materials. Nowadays many of these consist of chemical elements whose limited availability may prevent a mass production of the respective devices or systems. The RTG 2204 explores substitute materials based on abundant elements („elements of hope“) to prepare a breakthrough of cutting-edge technologies like high-efficiency photovoltaics, large-scale rechargeable batteries, thermoelectric generators and intelligent glazing.
Twelve research groups belonging to six institutes in the subjects chemistry, physics and materials science cooperate closely.
