For students on an official exchange programme:

Apply via the director of the relevant exchange program at your home university. Your program director will pass on your application documents to his/her opposite number at JLU Giessen, and will brief you on how to apply. Please make sure not to send off your applications directly to JLU Giessen – ONLY via your own program director at home!

For 'Free movers' - non-degree-seeking students coming to Giessen for one or two semesters outside the framework of exchange agreements:

Students belonging to this group must send the following application documents directly to the address given below:

• a letter from a professor who teaches in your field of study at JLU Giessen, confirming his/her willingness to act as your supervisor. It is your responsibility to contact the professor to request this letter. The letter should indicate the academic interest of the respective professor. Names and addresses of teaching staff can be found on the website of the respective department or institute.
• a carefully completed Application for Admission along with proof of matriculation at their home university (certified translation into German or English). For help in filling out the application form, consult the information contained in the Checklist on Application for Admission and in the overview of courses of study at JLU Giessen (do not follow instructions on how to apply for German students on these pages!).
• the list of all courses in English at JLU might also be of help to you
  

The following application deadlines are operative for exchange students and 'free movers':

• for entry in the Winter Semester: 15 July
• for entry in the Summer Semester: 15 January

The date that counts is the day on which the University receives all the necessary documents.
