Objectives
Being a researcher is about more than just conducting research. It also involves engaging with fellow academics (internal science communication) and with audiences beyond academia (external science communication). However, this kind of communication is not only about sharing knowledge – it is a key opportunity to shape and present your professional identity. For example, it can help you become more visible to future employers, collaborators, and a broader academic community.
In this workshop, we will explore strategies and tools to help you define and communicate your unique research identity. We will cover a range of relevant areas including your online presence (e.g., social media), professional interactions (e.g., networking), science communication (e.g., clarity and accessibility), and personal presentation (e.g., identity building). The goal of the workshop is that you will have developed a personalized approach using different avenues to increasing your visibility — whether online or at your next academic conference.
