What can I expect from this programme?
The aim of the degree programme is to familiarise students with the theory and practice of theatre and to enable them to reflect on theatrical arts and processes and their cultural, intellectual-historical and social context both theoretically and practically.
What will I learn?
The fundamentals, functions, aesthetics and historical forms of theatre and related arts are explored and tested both scientifically and theoretically as well as artistically and practically. Students should be enabled to deal independently with both given and self-selected tasks in practice and theory and to set their own priorities in the course of their studies. Applied theatre studies is understood to mean the relationship between theory and practice in the sense that theory arises from artistic practice and practice is questioned by theory.
What skills and interests should I have?
You should have an interest in theatre, performance or live art, be prepared to engage with it both academically and theoretically as well as artistically and practically and focus on different areas during the course of your studies, for example: Dance, music theatre, aesthetic theory, acoustic art, performance, video installation, literature or other artistic fields of activity. If you already have your own artistic work in one or more of the areas mentioned, this is helpful.
