Combining Career and Care Responsibilities

More than two-thirds of all people in need of care are mainly or partially cared for by relatives. To help you to successfully continue your doctorate while also shouldering care responsibilities, we have compiled some important information for you here.

If you need information about support services, legal regulations and regional contact points, you will find some helpful resources further down this page.

If you would like to find out more about support from JLU as an employer, you can contact your direct supervisor, the 'Personalrat' or the JLU Caregiving Guide, Ms. Julia Körner. Ms. Körner offers confidential conversations with information about contact persons and support offers.

If you have any questions about possible support from the GCSC, please contact Lena Nüchter. It is helpful if you think in advance about what support you may need. For example, do you need more time, do you need flexible working opportunities, or do you need information about the right contact persons?

Possible Support from the GCSC

  • Extension of membership / scholarship – on a case-by-case basis. Please make an appointment with Lena Nüchter: .
  • Support in the procurement of literature by student assistants. Please contact carolin.kania.
  • If necessary, participation in events from home – please inquire with the respective organisers whether remote access for the event is already planned or can be set up.

Should you need other kinds of support from the GCSC, please arrange a meeting with Lena Nüchter.
