Overview

Examine how exercise and health interact from a scientific perspective with our Bachelors degree programme in Physical Activity and Health. You will acquire a sound foundation in scientific knowledge and research methodology in order to promote a healthy lifestyle through sport. In very well-equipped laboratories, you will design your own training programmes and evaluate them using state-of-the-art methods.

Composition of the Study Programme

What can I expect from this programme?

During the bachelor's degree programme, you will deal with the interaction of health and exercise from a natural science and sports science perspective.

The bachelor's degree programme addresses the socially highly relevant topic of health from a scientific perspective and provides students with specific scientific and research methodological knowledge and competencies that enable them to promote a health-oriented lifestyle through exercise and sport on very different levels of society in a scientifically sound manner. Essential characteristics of the study programme are

  • its scientific orientation
  • its theoretical and research orientation, and
  • the technical and content-related connection of course-related practical components with the theoretical training within many modules.

 

What skills and interests should I have?

There is no particular test of suitability for practical sport. Students should com with an enthusiasm about sports and exercise. A good knowledge of mathematical and scientific subjects and English (level B2) is required.

How is the programme structured?

The study programme is composed of the following modules:

  • 24 compulsory modules (6 CP each)
  • two elective modules (6 CP each)
  • a professional internship (12 CP)
  • a thesis module (12 CP)

4th semester

A professional field internship is (see above) part of the study programme.

Career Options

What career paths can I pursue after graduation?

This course of study qualifies students for positions in institutions dealing with health (prevention, rehabilitation, sport of the handicapped), in sports clubs, in health management at the work place, sports groups and the sport and free time industry.

Among the possible positions are those concerned with the organization of medical preventative and rehabilitation measures, teaching activities, scientific work, consultant activities, project planning and supervision, publicity, moderation and mediation in the area of sports and movement culture.

Application and Enrolment

Requirements

A valid university entrance qualification (German: HZB) is required for admission to the program.

  • From Germany: General university entrance qualification (= Abitur or equivalent), vocational university entrance qualification, master craftsman’s certificate, university entrance qualification for professionally qualified individuals.
  • From abroad: You can find out whether the university entrance qualification from your home country qualifies you for direct admission to a degree program in Germany on the information portal for the recognition of foreign educational qualifications (anabin) .

Proof of an internship (pre-internship) is not required for admission.

Applicants with a foreign university entrance qualification should also note the required proof of German language proficiency .

Health certificate

During enrolment, applicants must provide a doctor’s health certificate of their suitability for sport. The basic requirements for this certificate are the diagnostic procedures and criteria listed in the form "Certification of Suitability for Sport" (Bestätigung der Sporttauglichkeit). During the registration period this form is published on the webpage of the Sports Science Department, or can be found here.

English skills are required

Knowledge of English at level B2 is required, as the specialist literature is predominantly in English. However, formal proof is not required.
