Lab Rotations Abroad
If you are a GGL member who would like to go on a lab rotation abraod you will find more information about funding opportunities here. If planned thoroughly, lab rotations are highly beneficial for your own work. You get to know new methods, you have a chance to expand your professional as well as your personal network and get to know international organisation structures. Furthermore, our recipients are messengers of the GGL in their host labs, they create synergies with their home labs as well as the GGL. Please note that your application will be reviewed by the GGL Study Committee and that the laboratory rotations are a competition with limited financial resources. Therefore, take great care to complete this list of information and documentation carefully.
Please use our submission form to apply for funding for your lab rotation. Please make sure to apply as early as possible to allow enough time for processing your application. Deadline for applications is May 31, 2026.
-
your explanation
why you need to go to that specific lab
and what
unique opportunities
you have there
- your detailed work plan indicating the working steps during your stay (please be as specific as possible)
- the statement by your supervisor
- the confirmation/invitation by the host lab

Only lab stays
abroad
will be funded -
the GGL will not fund conferences!
Of course, you are free to stay in your host lab as long as it takes for you to finish your experiments, but for fairness' sake, funding is limited to 10 days per lab stay!
When choosing your host country please consider the following:
- Some countries and/or host institutions require visa, permits etc. and it might take you extra time to apply for these documents. If this delays your departure until later than the end of the calendar year, you need to re-apply in the next year.
- It is not possible to travel to your home country for a lab rotation.
- Lab rotations within Germany will not be funded.
Fixed rates according to the DAAD rates will be granted.
