Können Menschen und 'Natur' gemeinsam gedeihen?
Erle Ellis wird einen Ansatz vorstellen, der erst in Kürze im Nature-Journal veröffentlicht wird: Anstatt Umweltschäden lediglich zu verhindern, setzt er gesellschaftlichen Fortschritt mit Verbesserungen der Umweltbeziehungen dieser Gesellschaften in Bezug. Aufbauend auf dem Human Development Index und unter Anwendung des Capabilities-Ansatzes arbeitet er derzeit mit einem internationalen Team an einem globalem Maßstab für den UNDP Human Development Report 2026 und stellt diese Arbeit dem Gießener- und Online-Publikum zur Diskussion.

Can humans and 'nature' thrive together?
Erle Ellis will present a groundbreaking new approach, soon to be published in Nature: rather than merely aiming to reduce environmental harm, he proposes to redefine societal progress through the lens of improving relationships between societies and the rest of the living world. Drawing on the Human Development Index and the capabilities approach, he is currently working with an international team on a new global metric for the 2026 UNDP Human Development Report. He will share and discuss this work with the audience in Giessen and beyond.
