Short Biography

Gerko Egert is a scholar of performance and media. He is currently a Private Lecturer at the Institute for Applied Theater Studies at Justus Liebig University Giessen. He has served as acting professor at Freie Universität Berlin and at HBK Braunschweig. His research focuses on philosophies and politics of movement, art and radical pedagogy, planetary action, dance and performance since the 20th century, process philosophy, and (speculative) pragmatism.

In addition to his dissertation Berührungen. Bewegung, Relation und Affekt im zeitgenössischen Tanz (Transcript 2016; English edition: Routledge 2020), his publications include: “Operational Choreography. Dance and Logistical Capitalism” (Performance Philosophy, 2022) and the edited volume Experimente lernen, Techniken tauschen. Ein spekulatives Handbuch (co-edited with Julia Bee, 2020). Together with Julia Bee, he runs the publication platform nocturne(www.gerkoegert.com, www.nocturne-plattform.de).
