Short Biography

Dr. Ekaterina Trachsel is a theater scholar and practitioner.

Since October 2022, she has been a research associate of Prof. Dr. Gerald Siegmund at the Institute for Applied Theater Studies. In addition to teaching and research, her responsibilities at the Institute include, among other things, coordinating the institute’s teaching schedule as well as coordinating the Bachelor’s program in Applied Theater Studies. She studied Scenic Arts (B.A.) and Staging of the Arts and Media (M.A.) at the University of Hildesheim and is a founding member of the theater collective VOLL:MILCH (vollmilch.me) and of nota e.V. (verein.nota.space). At the University of Hildesheim, she earned her doctorate on the topic “De-Montage in Contemporary Theater: A Dramaturgical Practice between Resistance and Affirmation,” where she also worked as a research associate in Theater Studies from 2017 to 2022. As a postdoctoral researcher, she is an associate member of the DFG Research Training Group 2477 “Aesthetic Practice.” She has taught as a guest lecturer, among others, at LMU Munich, the HfG Offenbach, and the Darmstadt Summer Courses. She was born in Zurich in 1989, where she completed classical dance training. As a dance educator and choreographer, she has worked at Schauspielhaus Zurich and in Guatemala City. Her research focuses on contemporary dramaturgies, production and reception aesthetics of the method of de-montage in theater, institutional transformation, and the theatrical staging of monstrous bodies and orders.
