Dr. Ekaterina Trachsel

Dr. Ekaterina Trachsel is a theatre scholar and theatre-maker.

Since October 2022, she is a research assistant to Prof. Dr. Gerald Siegmund at the Institute for Applied Theatre Studies. In addition to teaching and research, her responsibilities at the Institute include coordinating the Institute's curriculum and overseeing the Bachelor's program in ATW. She studied Scenic Arts (B.A.) and Staging of Arts and Media (M.A.) at the University of Hildesheim and she is a founding member of the theatre collective VOLL:MILCH (vollmilch.me) and nota e.V. (verein.nota.space) At the University of Hildesheim she wrote her PhD on the topic "De-Montage im zeitgenössischen Theater. Ein dramaturgisches Verfahren im Spannungsfeld von Widerstand und Affirmation" and worked there as a research assistant in the department of theatre studies from 2017 to 2022. As a postdoc, she is an associate member of the DFG Graduiertenkolleg 2477 "Aesthetic Practice." She has been a guest lecturer at LMU Munich, HfG Offenbach, and Darmstädter Ferienkurse, among others. She was born in 1989 in Zurich, where she completed a classical dance education. As a dance teacher and choreographer she worked at the Schauspielhaus Zurich and in Guatemala City. Her research focuses on contemporary dramaturgies, the production and reception aesthetics of the process of de-montage in theatre, institutional change and theatrical staging of monstrous bodies and orders.
