Stadt Gießen

Seltersweg and the surrounding quarter around Giessen market square, Neustädter Tor and the so-called "City Centre" shopping mall are Giessen's main shopping district.

Department stores, boutiques, retailers, supermarkets - you are sure to find what you are looking for. And you will be able to shop safely: the shopping district is for pedestrians only.

Huge discount supermarkets can be reached by bus on the outskirts of town. Ask your contact person at JLU for the nearest discount shop.

Opening hours are flexible in Germany: department stores are usually open 10 am - 7 pm, supermarkets and discounters are open from 8 am - 8 pm. All shops (except bakeries and petrol stations) close on Sundays.

24 hour shopping is possible only at gas stations. They offer staple foods and drinks and are usually quite expensive.
