KI-News für Studierende: JLU kiChat, API-Service des HRZ und KIRO von AWS

Mit KI coden und Daten analysieren - JLU-Studierende können Sprachmodelle direkt in Anwendungen und Entwicklungsumgebungen nutzen

Über unseren JLU kiChat könnt ihr mit ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini und offenen Modellen chatten und ganz neu Code direkt in Sandboxes ausführen – aber es geht noch mehr: Ihr könnt Sprachmodelle direkt über Schnittstellen in Anwendungen und Entwicklungsumgebungen nutzen. 

Für wen und wofür: Ihr müsst keine Programmier-Profis sein, denn die KI hilft euch dabei. Wertet eure Messdaten aus, durchforstet große Textdaten, macht linguistische Korpusanalysen, baut Finanzmodelle – in vielen Bereichen kann KI unterstützen.

Zwei Optionen: unser API-Service am HRZ und, als externes Zusatzangebot, KIRO von Amazon Web Services (AWS).

1) HRZ-API-Service: Sprachmodelle für eure Projekte

Über unsere API könnt ihr leistungsfähige Sprachmodelle direkt in eure eigenen Anwendungen, Skripte und Entwicklungsumgebungen integrieren – datenschutzkonform und sogar innerhalb der Uni-Infrastruktur. Was das konkret heißt:

  • Coding mit KI: Ihr verbindet z. B. Claude Code oder OpenCode einfach mit unserem Endpunkt und nutzt lokal gehostete Top-Modelle wie qwen3-coder-next (256k Kontext) oder qwen3.8-27b (1M Kontext) – für Kursprojekte, Skripte, eigene Tools.
  • Eigene KI-Funktionen bauen: Chatbots, Textzusammenfassungen, Analyse-Skripte, Sprachmodelle in eigenen Apps – ihr entscheidet, wofür ihr die Modelle im Kontext eures Studiums einsetzt, natürlich immer im Rahmen der allgemeinen Vorgaben und Empfehlungen (Prüfungen, allgemein) und der Regeln eurer Lehrenden.
  • Gratis für euch: Die lokalen Modelle könnt ihr ohne Limits benutzen.

  1. E-Mail an ki@uni-giessen.de – wir richten euch euren Zugang zur API ein. Mit der Nutzung akzeptiert ihr die Nutzungsbedingungen.

2) KIRO von AWS: ein externer Bonus

Neu ist außerdem: AWS bietet JLU-Studierenden die Möglichkeit, KIRO – ein KI-Coding-Tool aus der Profiwelt – ein Jahr lang gratis nutzen zu können (1.000 Credits pro Monat, regulär 240 $/Jahr). Die Anmeldung geht über 🔗 kiro.dev/students mit eurer JLU-E-Mail-Adresse.

Damit ihr gut informiert seid, hier kurz die Einordnung:

  • KIRO ist kein Angebot des HRZ oder der JLU. Wir hosten es nicht, verwalten es nicht und bieten keinen Support dafür an. Es ist ein rein externes Tool von AWS, das wir euch als zusätzliche Option mitteilen.
  • Eure Uni-E-Mail dient nur der Verifikation: AWS prüft damit lediglich, dass ihr tatsächlich Studierende seid.
  • Eure Verantwortung: Die Verantwortung für die Nutzung liegt vollständig bei euch – Input, Output und Weiterverwendung. Was ihr in KIRO eingebt, geht an AWS. Stellt keine Inhalte ein, die Urheberrechte oder andere Schutzrechte Dritter berühren – bei personenbezogenen Daten Dritter braucht es deren Einverständnis.
  • Bei Studien- und Prüfungsleistungen: Ob und wie ihr KIRO für abgabepflichtige Arbeiten nutzen dürft, klärt bitte mit den jeweiligen Lehrenden. Die JLU-Vorgaben und Empfehlungen (Prüfungen, allgemein) gelten dabei uneingeschränkt.

Support & Community (von AWS, nicht vom HRZ):

Ihr habt die Wahl: KIRO ist ein externes Bonus-Angebot zum Ausprobieren. Unser API-Service bleibt der Weg, wenn ihr KI datenschutzkonform und unabhängig von externen Anbietern nutzen wollt.

AI Updates for Students: JLU kiChat, HRZ API Services, and AWS KIRO

Empower your coding and data analysis with AI: integrate language models directly into your development tools and applications.

JLU kiChat provides a gateway to ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, and open-source models, now enhanced with the ability to run code in isolated sandboxes. Looking to build? You can also access these language models via APIs, making it easy to embed AI functionality directly into your own applications and development environments.

For whom and for what: You don't need to be a programming pro, because the AI will help you. Analyse your measurement data, sift through large amounts of text data, perform linguistic corpus analyses, build financial models – AI can support you in many areas.

Two options: our API service at the IT Service Centre (HRZ) and, as an external additional offer, KIRO from Amazon Web Services (AWS).

1) HRZ API Service: Language models for your projects

Via our API, you can integrate powerful language models directly into your own applications, scripts, and development environments – in compliance with data protection regulations and even within the university infrastructure. What this means in practice:

  • Coding with AI: For example, you can connect Claude Code or OpenCode simply with our endpoint and use locally hosted top models such as qwen3-coder-next (256k context) or qwen3.8-27b (1M context) – for course projects, scripts, or your own tools.
  • Build your own AI functions: Chatbots, text summaries, analysis scripts, language models in your own apps – you decide how to use the models in the context of your studies, always within the framework of the general guidelines and recommendations (exams, general) and the rules of your instructors.
  • Free of charge: You can use the local models without limits.

How to get started:

  1. Email ki@uni-giessen.de – we will set up your API access. By using it, you accept the terms of use.

2) AWS KIRO: an external bonus

Also new: AWS offers JLU students the opportunity to use KIRO – a professional AI coding tool – for free for one year (1,000 credits per month, regularly $240/year). Registration is via 🔗 kiro.dev/students using your JLU email address.

To ensure you are well informed, here is some extra guidance:

  • KIRO is not an offer from the IT Service Centre (HRZ) or the JLU. We do not host it, do not manage it, and do not provide support for it. It is a purely external tool from AWS that we are sharing with you as an additional option.
  • Your university email is used only for verification: AWS merely uses it to check that you are indeed students.
  • Your responsibility: Responsibility for use lies entirely with you – input, output, and further use. Whatever you enter into KIRO goes to AWS. Do not enter any content that infringes on the copyrights or other intellectual property rights of third parties – for personal data of third parties, their consent is required.
  • Regarding coursework and exams: Please clarify with your respective instructors whether and how you may use KIRO for assignments that must be submitted. The JLU guidelines and recommendations (exams, general) apply without exception.

Support & Community (from AWS, not from the IT Service Centre (HRZ)):

The choice is yours: KIRO is an external bonus offer for testing. Our API service remains the way to go if you want to use AI in compliance with data protection and independently of external providers.
