Financial Support / Scholarships

A range of scholarships are available to students. This mode of support applies to both German and foreign students. The following section provides a brief overview of a selection of the scholarships available:

Dr. Arthur Pfungst Foundation


The Dr. Arthur Pfungst Foundation supports talented students in financial need during their studies at German universities. The program supports undergraduate, graduate and state examination courses in all disciplines. The awarding of the scholarships is subject to the requirements of aptitude and financial need as well as straightforwardness and regarding the chosen course of study and degree.

The Avicenna Study Program


The Avicenna Study Program is the youngest and at the same time the first Muslim foundation in Germany. The scholarships are used to sponsor students and postgraduates of Muslim faith of all subjects. Other criteria are above-average professional achievements, social commitment and the commitment to Islam and interest in discourse with other religions.

Cusanuswerk - Episcopal study grant


The Cusanuswerk is an episcopal foundation of the Catholic Church. Funded are talented Catholic students and doctoral students from all fields of study and university forms. In addition to the financial support, an idealistic assistance is offered to get involved in society, church and science. The remaining standard period of study must be at least 5 semesters.

Requirements for applicants:
•    Outstanding professional achievements, reflexivity, curiosity, creativity
•    Willingness to ask questions, take a stand and take responsibility
•    To take one's own faith seriously and to help shape the church, to work for others

The Ernst Ludwig Ehrlich foundation


The Ernst Ludwig Ehrlich Studienwerk (ELES) is Jewish scholarship foundation. Students, PhD students and artists of Jewish faith are supported. In addition to the financial aspect, this program places emphasis on commitment, self-development, Jewish identity, responsibility and dialogue skills. Participation in an interdisciplinary college for exchange between international students is offered as well. Every year an excursion to Israel takes place. At the time of application, you must have 5 semesters of your studies left.

Requirements:
•    good high school and academic achievements
•    Jewish religious affiliation (exceptions are possible for dissertations on Jewish-related topics)
•    Employment in Jewish communities, in social and societal areas, youth work, student councils

Foundation of the German Economy (Funding by Klaus Murmann)


Klaus Murmann, the founder of the German Business Foundation (sdw), offers not only financial support, but also an interdisciplinary offer in the spirit of entrepreneurial thinking and social responsibility. There is a personal support and discourse with people working in the economy sector and actors of social life. A special preparatory college has been set up for teacher training students. All subjects with an economic and social focus are eligible. Students for Universities of Applied Sciences and without an academic family background are encouraged to apply. Selection criteria for the scholarship are:

•    High professional performance
•    Social activity (school or university work, homework help, association work, etc.)
•    Social skills, strong general education, networked thinking and good communication skills
•    Determination

Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung


The Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung is the oldest political foundation in Germany. It is committed to the basic principles of social democracy: freedom, equality, and solidarity. The foundation operates globally via political education programmes, scholarships for the talented students, research, as well as international cooperation programmes. The program aims at above-average students and graduates equally from Germany and foreign countries, connected to the values of social democracy. Emphasis is put on professional skill, socio-political dedication and social background of the candidates. The scholarship entails both material and non-material support, for example a comprehensive seminar program. Furthermore, scholarship holders will be supported by the members of the foundation regarding their studies and their involvement in social projects or the like.

Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom


The core responsibilities of the Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom include the provision of material and non-material support to talented young liberal academics. Political education is supported, and political dialogue on and research into freedom and human rights matters are facilitated. Hanns Seidel Stiftung (HSS)


The Hanns Seidel Foundation (HSS) is politically close to the CSU. She wants to promote the scholarship holders not only scientifically, but also ideologically. She represents Christian social values. Scholarship holders are students and doctoral candidates from all disciplines, who provide particularly high academic and academic achievements. Here, too, the sociopolitical interest through, for example, work in student organizations, politically or in the social sphere is decisive.

Hans-Böckler Foundation


The Hans Böckler Foundation (HBS) is the foundation of the German Trade Union Confederation. Students and postgraduate students of all subjects can be supported.  Support requires involvement in a trade union or other socio-political areas. The scholarship holders are proposed by the unions or by the fellowship groups. The program "Böckler-Aktion Bildung" allows self-application. Especially students who cannot finance their studies themselves are addressed and encouraged to apply.

Heinrich Böll Foundation


The aim of the environmentally oriented Heinrich Böll Foundation is to support professionals and future leaders – people who take responsibility and apply themselves to the international political principles of the foundation: democracy, ecology, solidarity, and non-violence.
The Foundation's support is aimed at students and doctoral candidates from within all subjects and types of university. The emphases are as follows:
•    Persons with a migratory background, students from non-academic families, from technical universities, from the MINT subjects – primarily ecological science, journalism, law, and economics
•    International students from Eastern Europe, the former Soviet Union, Middle East, and conflict regions around the globe.

Dr. Jost Henkel Foundation


The Dr. The Jost Henkel Foundation advertises its ability to respond flexibly to every applicant and assess them on an individual basis. Subsequently they will receive different support measures. The Foundation's focus lays on diversity, promoting diverse topics and beliefs. The application is open to students worldwide regardless of their field of study, but economics, social sciences, natural sciences and engineering are the preferred fields of study. The foundation primarily supports students who convince with above-average study achievements and who cannot sufficiently finance an adequately timed study with their own resources.

Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung


The Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung is a foundation that fosters future leadership in the areas of politics, business, science, media, culture, and society. The foundation endorses adherence to a Christian-democratic understanding of morality and civilized values.

Protestant Study Scholarship Foundation Villigst


The Evangelische Studienwerk Villigst supports protestant students of all degrees at colleges and universities throughout Germany. The study program offers individual support, a versatile interdisciplinary education and participation opportunities at all levels. They are looking for committed students with good performance and interest in interdisciplinary topics. Explicitly encouraged to apply are students from a non-academic background and from Universities of Applied Sciences.
The amount of funding is up to 649 € and plus 300 € study fee per month. At the time of application, you should not have passed the 3rd semester yet.

Rosa Luxembourg Foundation


The Rosa Luxemburg Foundation represents democratic socialism and is close to the DIE LINKE party. Students and doctoral students are being promoted worldwide. The goals of the Foundation are democratization and political decision-making, social justice and solidarity through political education and the abolition of patriarchal, ethnic and national oppression.

Prerequisite are high achievements and social commitment. The purpose of the foundation is to compensate for social, political or gender injustices. Therefore, women, the needy, students without an academic background and the disabled are encouraged to apply.

Studienstiftung des deutschen Volkes (German National Academic Foundation)


The Studienstiftung des deutschen Volkes is the only fully non-political and non-denominational foundation in Germany. It supports approximately 11,000 academically gifted scholars and doctoral candidates. The support programme promotes academic consolidation, interdisciplinary dialogue, international experience, and openness to all cultures of the world.
The Foundation's support is aimed at German and foreign students and doctoral candidates from all subjects and universities.

VLI German Agribusiness Scholarship


The VLI (junction for agriculture and industry) understands itself as connecting link between industry and agriculture. They are a non-political platform for discussion
As a party-politically neutral discussion platform, it offers the opportunity for cross-industry discussions about economic and business development and socio-political issues.

They are looking for soon-to-be or already enrolled Master students with an agronomic or nutritional focus and good results at German universities, which are aiming to pursue a career in agribusiness. The monthly grant is € 500 for one year. The program includes the supervision by the VLI and the possibility of participating in events for establishing contacts in agribusiness, participation in a further education seminar, as well as the support of a practical master's thesis if desired.

Application deadline: until 15.06. every year for the following winter semester.
