Semester Contribution

Giessen University does not charge study fees as such; it does, however, charge administrative fees. These fees currently amount to about 275 Euro per semester (approximately 290 Euro for the initial enrolment).

Please check the current fee on the JLU website Semester contribution

These fees cover:

  • Semester ticket for local public transport services (further information on the semester ticket)
  • Semester fee for the students' association
  • Semester fee for student services
  • Administrative fees
  • Bond (one-time payment) for the chip-card ID at initial enrolment
  • Theatre ticket and public pool flatrate

Sustainable Transition: For the entirely digital degree programme Justus Liebig University charges a semester contribution of approx. 100 EUR. This is an administrative fee and does not include the local discounts.

The administrative fees must be paid prior to enrolling at Giessen University. We recommend to transfer the administrative fees payment from within your home country. Please ensure that the transaction process is documented as you will require said documentation when enrolling at the university.

Re-matriculation

Each semester, every student is required to pay the administrative fees within a specific time period – a procedure known as re-matriculation. Failure of payment within the stipulated period will result in automatic exmatriculation.
