Course Description

In this job application workshop the focus will be on job interviews especially for the German labour market. Find out about how to meet the expectations in your written application as well as in your overall performance! You will receive input information about application procedures/requirements and useful strategies for self-presentation, followed by a sequence of dealing with individual strengths and weaknesses, common questions, elevator pitch, and, finally, by pair work activities for practise. There will be time for questions arising from our activities and also regarding your CVs and covering letters in German.

The workshop deals with questions of German language for applications and interviews and will largely be taught in German, but will partly be held in English if required – according to knowledge and need of participants. There will be ample opportunity for practising job interviews in German.

Due to the present situation and special circumstances this workshop will not be held in class but will be conducted via Zoom and e-mails. There will be a mixture of group communication in Zoom sessions, short presentations and pair work in Zoom “breakout rooms”, followed by a CV check and by addressing individual questions/issues as required in the afternoon with your trainer.

Trainer profile

Renate Graßtat, M. A., is currently teaching German as a Foreign Language at Humboldt University Berlin, and to business clients (German and international companies). Her focus is on advanced language training programs for doctoral students, job application training, exam preparation for university entrance tests, academic writing and intercultural issues, especially with respect to academic culture and the German market. Furthermore, she is the teaching Creative Writing in different formats.
