Academic Writing – Part 2
Montag, 13.11., 14-18 Uhr

Effective academic communication is the basis of successful scholarly work. Transferring the
output of your research to other scholars and practitioners is probably the most important
component in academics.

But: academic writing is not like other styles of communication. It has own conventions that ensure clear, explicit and logically consistent contents. Most challenging for young scientists is to receive sufficient practice in academic writing and improve their writing skills.

In this workshop we will outline key challenges that young scholars are confronted with at the beginning of their studies and academic career. Participants will experience helpful and sustainable strategies to keep their writing on track.

The workshop is divided into two sections. Both classes are content-related but could be joined
independently.

Contents of „Academic Writing – Part 2“:
• What is understood as the academic style?
The basic rules of academic writing.
• Assessing and providing feedback:
Why peer review is so important for successful scientific writing.
How to maintain the relationship to your academic supervisor.
• Final manuscript preparation:
Editing and formal requirements

Lecturer:
Dr. Iris Krimmel is familiar with all aspects of academic writing. After working for many years as a political scientist, she started to work as a writing coach in 2029 and supports young scholars and scientists in every stage of the academic writing process. She‘s convinced that pen and paper are the most effective tools for learning and deepening knowledge (www.handpapierkopf.de).
