Financing Your Studies as an International Student

In this workshop, the Studierendenwerk Gießen and the International Office of JLU will dive into the various options for international degree-seeking students to finance their studies in Germany.

Topics will include:

• Jobbing
• Grants and Scholarships
• Student Loans
• BAföG
• Studying with children
• Housing Benefit („Wohngeld“)
• Commitment Declaration („Verpflichtungserklärung“)
• Emergency Financial Aid

We will also explain which options are open for whom – whether you are an international student from Europe, from worldwide or whether you have a refugee status.

There will be enough time for students‘ individual questions.

Lecturers:

- Julia Kislat is an International Student Advisor at JLU’s International Office. She organizes the semester-accompanying workshop programme and offers consultation on study matters and career preparation.
- Johanna Theiß and Dr. Silke Moehrke are social counselling advisors at the Studierendenwerk Gießen and provide information and advice in relation to students’ social and economic situations.
