Dynamics and Politics of War and Peace

The seminar deals with the causes and backgrounds of conflicts. Nowadays, the number of interstate wars – wars between states or alliances of states – is decreasing. In return, the number of domestic conflicts between hostile social, political, religious or ethnic groups  is increasing. The question of how peace becomes possible should be explored together. What influence do international agreements on arms control and disarmament have? To what extent have domestic and interna-tional wars changed through the use of modern technologies? The role of the media in conflicts is also discussed.
