Prof. h.c. Heiner Goebbels

Heiner Goebbels, composer and director, has been working as a professor at the Institute for Applied Theatre Studies since 1999. Since the winter semester 2003 until winter semester 2011 he has been the Managing Director of the institute. The main focus of his work is the artistic practice which has, since the beginning of his teaching, been constantly extended through improving training possibilities. Since then sound and video studios have been added to the stage, in which many artistic pieces can be worked on by students.

In every semester, he carries out artistic projects with the students and in seminars teaches the scientific environment to artistic practice with literary and musical focus with tendencies towards contemporary fine arts and theatre. He is particularly interested in working together in artistic cooperation with other training institutions (Akademie der Bildenden Künste Wien, HfG Offenbach, Le Fresnoys, Rits Brüssel, CNSMD LYon, IUAV Venezia u.a.) and the increasing range of artistic student projects (e.g. collaboration with the Künstlerhaus Mousonturm Frankfurt, Festival junger Talente Offenbach, Kampnagel Hamburg, PACT Zollvereien, Hessische Theatertage, Hebbel am Ufer Berlin and many others)

Prof. Heiner Goebbels was involved in setting up the tanzlabor_21, the Hessische Theaterakademie (Hessian Theatre Academy) and the Hessische Film und Medien Akademie and is active in several juries which are dedicated to supporting artistic new blood in theatre and music theatre. The Plateaux-Nachwuchswettbewerb (Plateaux competition for new artists) at the Künstlerhaus Mousonturm, Akademie Musiktheater Heute der Deutschen Bank, Fonds experimentelles Musiktheater NRW, Grazer Ring Award, Frankfurter Positionen BHF Bank to name a few.
