Alisher Kosimov joined JLU as a PhD candidate of the International PhD Program for Agricultural Economics, Bioeoconomy and Rural Development in the Department of Agricultural Policy and Market Research in October 2019. He holds a Master’s degree in agricultural economics from the University of Pannonia, Hungary (2012) and a Bachelor’s degree in agrotechnology from the Technological University in Khujand, Tajikistan (2009). Prior to joining JLU, he worked as a research fellow at the Institute of Agricultural Economics of the Tajik Academy of Agricultural Sciences. He also has substantial experience working on international research and development projects focused on rural development, agriculture commercialization, value chain development, and international agricultural trade, supported by organizations such as the World Bank (WB), Asian Development Bank (ADB), German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ), International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), International Center for Agricultural Research in the Dry Areas (ICARDA), Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), and Helvetas Swiss Intercooperation.
His current PhD research examines how smallholders integrate into emerging modern value chains amid Tajikistan's transition to a market economy, highlighting their role as a critical component of sustainable food systems that foster inclusivity and resilience.
